The Summer Chapel of Ease

Mission

Being always mindful of the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Church of the Transfiguration is managed by lay people and led by clergy. With grateful hearts we caringly manage our endowment. Our summer offerings help us to maintain and enhance our building and land and to execute a program of outreach within our community, the dioceses and the national church.

Celebrating the Eucharist

All baptized Christians are welcome to receive Holy Communion at the altar rail. All others are welcome to receive a blessing. To receive Holy Communion please put your hands out, one over the other, to receive the wafer. You may consume the wafer and take a sip from the chalice as it is presented to you. If you prefer, you may dip the wafer into the wine, or have the chalice bearer dip the wafer into the wine and place it on your tongue. If you would prefer to receive a blessing, please cross your arms over your chest.

Welcome to Families with Children

We welcome babies and children to the Church of the Transfiguration. A basket of toys and books can be found near the front door. A rug is available so young ones can sit on the porch, in view of their families, and play ... and listen!

Offerings

If you would like to make a pledge to the Church of Transfiguration or discuss other ways to contribute, please do not hesitate to speak with a member of the Bishop's Committee. In addition, envelopes for the weekly offering are available on the table at the back of the church.

Charitable Donations

During the year the Church of the Transfiguration makes financial contributions to numerous worthy organizations. This year we will be donating to the Episcopal Diocese of Connecticut, the Bishop’s Fund for Children, the Bishop’s Discretionary Fund, the Church of Christ, the Episcopal Relief and Development Fund, Fishes and Loaves Food Pantry, Greenwoods Scholarship Foundation, Litchfield Hills/Northwestern Connecticut Elderly Nutrition Program, Norfolk Lions Club, Norfolk Senior Housing Corporation, the Community Soup Kitchen of Torrington, the Norfolk Lion’s Club Ambulance Fund, the Norfolk Volunteer Fire Department and the Winchester Youth Services Bureau.

In addition, each Sunday during the summer we accept donations of canned goods and other nonperishable foods for the Norfolk Food Pantry. Donations are left in the basket at the entrance to the church.
